Resort Overview

Cardrona has on snow accommodation and is located almost half way in between Wanaka and Queenstown in New Zealand's South Island. Cardrona is one of the few places in New Zealand where you can overnight on the mountain. There are 15 self-catering apartment units situated in the main complex and only a minute walk to the lifts. Cardrona is one of the most popular family orientated ski fields in New Zealand. The mountain is equipped with a total of 6 lifts and 3 terrain parks. Cardrona has many schools and programs available for learning, from a beginner's school to a high performance centre for the advanced. The mountain also has kids centre's which separates the children from the ages of 3 months to 14.

Cardrona ski resort is located about a 28 km drive away from Wanaka and about a 40km drive away from Queenstown.

How to get there

To New Zealand - there are many affordable international flights to Queenstown or Christchurch, New Zealand.  Once at either airport there are many different car rentals to choose to get to Cardrona.  If you want to catch a shuttle; from Queenstown airport there are 5 daily shuttles to Wanaka accommodation and from Christchurch there is a daily shuttle service or another flight to Wanaka airport and then a shuttle to your accommodation.

To the mountain each day - Queenstown is located approximately a 45 minute drive and Wanaka 25 minutes away from the ski field.  The road to Cardrona can be hazardous for inexperienced alpine drivers.  If you don't want to drive there are shuttle from Queenstown or Wanaka.  They run to and from either town every day during the snow season.

Cardrona ski field has one of the largest pipe and terrain parks in the southern hemisphere and caters to many professionals from around the world.  The park features up to 4 half pipes and three terrain parks. Cardrona ski slopes are one of the best New Zealand has to offer. The mountain has everything from special slopes for beginners, wide open groomed slopes for the intermediates, to chutes and park for the advanced riders.

Après Ski

There is very little après ski on the mountain but with a few great restaurants, a noodle bar and cafes, you can enjoy your daily meals, hot or cold drinks and snacks throughout the day. Wanaka located about a 25 minute drive away has many bars, restaurants, accommodation and city attractions for you to enjoy but generally Wanaka stays fairly quiet. If you are looking for the more exciting party life then you must visit Queenstown located about a 45 minute drive from the mountain.
